Life is Hard - I Want to Do More, I Want to Do Less

change living intentionally online course

In my course, Living Intentionally, we explore how to live with intention - how to ensure that we are living a life that has meaning and purpose.

But honestly, some days it's just hard isn’t it?

It’s tough to live with intention.

It’s tough to get through the day sometimes right? Let alone, put the extra effort into doing it with intention.

We’ve got:

  • Our work, or maybe a business we’re building (or heck, maybe both!)
  • Our families: a spouse and kids, maybe aging parents
  • We’ve got house that needs cleaning or some maintenance
  • For some of us we have yards that need taking care of
  • We have bills to pay, and other financial worries
  • Maybe you’ve got pets to take care of
  • Maybe you have volunteer commitments that sounded like a great idea at some point but seem like a pain in the ass now
  • We have friends and other relationships we’re trying to maintain

And then there is so much weighing on our minds and hearts - we’re all still recovering from two years of living through a global pandemic. Maybe it’s affected you financially, maybe you’ve lost someone, maybe you’ve got long covid symptoms. There is no way that this pandemic has not affected your mental health.

And now we’re watching a war and a humanitarian crisis take place in Ukraine.

Holy shit right? Living Intentionally might be the very last thing on your mind. You’re not thinking about thriving, you’re just hoping for survival.

I get it.

I feel the same way.

Last weekend I felt like throwing in the towel. I felt like sending an email to my students to say: "Forget it. Forget everything I’ve been telling you. I don’t want to do this anymore. Who’s with me?"

This shit is hard. It’s hard, it really is.

This world is hard. It’s so hard.

Instead, I took a walk in the forest. I went to a beautiful festival that celebrated Canada’s French Canadian, Metis and First Nations’ people.

I breathed deeply and moved my body.

I played with my puppy and made sure to laugh out loud.

I sent out proposals that made me scared with my own audacity.

I bought tickets to a rock concert.

I made a coffee a friend with a friend that I haven't seen for way too long, because we have both been too 'busy'.

I remembered to keep living intentionally. And I remembered why I want to keep living intentionally.

It IS because the world is hard and ugly sometimes. See, I need to find my own beauty. I need to build my own beautiful life. No one is handing it to me on the 6 o’clock news or on social media these days, that’s for sure. I need to go and find it. I need to be intentional about it.

So, if that resonates with you, then let’s keep at this together.
